Cheese, canopies, cheers, and now chairs!

March 9 @ 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Free
At this Arts and Sciences Event, we will be making cheese, beautifying our Canton’s gathering day-shades, making folding wooden stools, and sharing good cheer with our Canton members and friends. Please bring a snack to share with the group and bring your favorite beverage. If you wish to participate in the cheese making, please bring your own container or containers to carry your cheeses home, and see the below list of ingredients.
We will be making 3 different cheeses during the day, Mozzarella, Ricotta, and Cream Cheese. Each cheese only takes about 30 minutes to make, so cheese lovers will be able to make all three at this event.
Mozzarella- 1 gallon of whole milk (cannot be ultra-pasteurized)*
Ricotta Cheese- This is made from the whey left from making the mozzarella cheese. However, you will need an additional ¼ of a gallon of whole milk (cannot be ultra-pasteurized)* for the Ricotta.
Cream Cheese- Need 1 gallon of whole milk (cannot be ultra-pasteurized)*
* Most of your local supermarkets only carry ultra-pasteurized milk. You can find the non-ultra pasteurized in stores like Whole Foods and Earth Fare. Also, you can use raw milk for a creamier cheese. Sometimes, the Peach Stand in Fort Mill, SC has raw milk available for sale.
We will also need acrylic paints in the colors white, yellow, blue, green and black for the day-shade decorations. Please wear old clothes that you do not mind getting paint on because this activity could get messy!
There is a separate posting that contains all of the information you will need if you want to create a traveling stool. Scroll through and find that information because you’re going to want to make a couple of these to take with you to your next event!
This event is very graciously hosted at the home of Torquil & Amira (Dusty and Tammy Mullins). Thank you Torquil and Amira!
